About
The National Association of Black Journalists was founded by 44 black journalists in Washington D.C on December 12, 1975. With a purpose is to Advocate, Encourage, Professionally Develop, and Strengthen Ties. Capstone Association of Black Journalists, The University of Alabama’s student chapter, was first founded in 1985 by Kenneth Knight as the Minorities for Careers in Communication (MCC). We became an affiliate with the National Association of Black Journalists in 1995 and changed the name of our chapter to Capstone Association of Black Journalists (CABJ). We are still formally noticed as NABJ at UA by the national chapter.
We, The Capstone Association of Black Journalists, exist to foster interest in the area of journalism as a career for all students currently enrolled at the University of Alabama. We have made it our duty to work closely with Region III chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists and other organizations dedicated to the fulfillment of careers in the media. This pledge that we have made will serve the purpose of positively affecting the aspirations and careers of students in this organization and all those we may serve.
